Dordt defeats Lindenwood-Belleville 3-2 (15-25, 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 15-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College bounced back from a loss in set four to win set five and take it’s league match against Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday night, February 2 in Sioux Center.
The Lynx trailed Dordt 5-4 after a Ben Tiemersma kill but the visitors responded with six points in a row to take control at 10-5. Dordt fought back to within one on two different occasions in the set, the last time at 16-15 after an attack error and gave up the final nine points in a row to fall 25-15.
Set two was a reversal in fortune as Dordt got up 12-10 on a six point run with a pair of blocks triggering the string for Dordt. Another four point run put Dordt firmly in control at 18-12 and the hosts went on to win 25-17.
Set three featured five ties and two lead changes with Dordt leading by as many as 19-12 after an Alex Durbin service ace. The visitors fought back to within 22-20 and eventually tied it at 23-23 but a Tyler Postma kill put Dordt up one and after another tie at 24-24 the Defenders got the win with a kill and ace serve in succession by Durbin to get Dordt the 26-24 lead.
Set four was all Lindenwood-Belleville with a 22-9 lead by the Lynx leading to a 25-17 win after Dordt scored eight of the last 11 points.
The final set had the Defenders get up 4-0 right away and the lead was 11-6 after an attack error by the guests. Lindenwood-Belleville would tie it at 12-12 and 13-13 but Ben Tiemersma gave Dordt the lead with a kill and an attack error finished it 15-13.
Dordt had a .122 kill efficiency with 44 kills while the Lynx had a .179 kill efficiency with 54 kills.
Dordt scored 15 points on blocks to seven points for the visitors on blocks.
Lindenwood-Belleville had a 64-55 digs advantage.
Ben Tiemersma had 19 kills and Durbin 12 with four service aces.
Tyler Postma put up 35 assists and had 13 digs while Mark Schussler had 13 digs.
Durbin was in on three solo blocks and six assists.
Dordt is now 1-1 in the league and overall.
Lindenwood-Belleville falls to 0-4.
Dordt will travel to Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Tuesday, February 6.
