Hastings defeats Dordt 6-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dordt College lost a 6-1 verdict to Hastings College in men’s soccer on Saturday, September 23 in Sioux Center.

The Defenders broke a scoreless tie with a Mason Faucett goal in the 32nd minute and Hastings answered with a goal by Daniel Whitehall in the 37th minute. The score stood until halftime when Jonathan Lopez scored the eventual game winner just under a minute in the second half.

Whitehall added goals in the 59th, 66th and 72nd minute before Nick Hinds ended the scoring for the Broncos in the 74th minute.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt was outshot 21-2 and on goal 14-1.

Seth Lewison was in goal for the Defenders and made seven saves.

Hastings had a 3-1 corner kick advantage.

Dordt is 0-1 in the GPAC and 5-4 overall.

Hastings is no. 11 in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Poll and is 1-0 in the GPAC and 6-3 overall.

Faucett’s goal is his team leading seventh of the season.

Dordt will travel to Sioux City on Tuesday, September 26 to face Briar Cliff.

COACH CRAIG STIEMSMA SAID

“We had a decent start. Scoring first gave us confidence. Giving up several goals in a half is never a good thing. We battled hard for 45 minutes. That’s just not going to cut it. Hastings got on us early in the second half and caused us to get in a hurry and go away from what we do best.”
