Dordt defeats Doane 1-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College got a complete game shutout from Luke Drooger and the Defenders earned a 1-0 win over the Doane Tigers in the nightcap of Thursday’s baseball doubleheader in Sioux Center.
The Defenders scored the only run of the game in the second inning when Trent Roose was hit by a pitch with two outs. Chris Schrieber followed with a walk and Andrew Randall came through with a single to left-center.
Doane had left a runner on in the first and two more in the second. Doane also had a runner in the third but a double play finished that inning after the Tigers had runners at first and second.
Dordt had a chance to stretch the lead in the fourth but couldn’t move Silva and Schrieber around from first and second.
Luke Drooger got the win with three hits allowed, two walks and five strikeouts. Drooger threw 91 pitches in his second win of the season.
Colton Van Otterloo, Silva and Randall had Dordt’s three hits.
Chris Schrieber worked for two walks.
Travis Cowan was equally impressive for Doane with 12 strikeouts in the loss. He issued two walks.
