Doane defeats Dordt 9-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
A six run sixth inning pushed Doane to a 9-1 win in game one of its doubleheader with Dordt in Sioux Center on Thursday night.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved due to a poor forecast.
Doane put one on the board in the first but Dordt answered in the second inning with Justin Silva getting hit by a pitch. Silva advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball and scored on Chris Schrieber’s sacrifice fly.
The tie was short lived as Coane scored two on a two run homerun by Tommy Anderson over the left field fence.
The 3-1 lead held until a six run, five hit uprising in the top of the sixth that put the game out reach.
Doane outhit Dordt 9-4.
Dordt got one hit each from four different players. Colton Van Otterloo had the lone extra base hit with a double.
Isaac Buteyn went five and two-third innings with seven walks and four strikeouts.
Andrew Vander Hart pitched an inning and a third with two walks and one strikeout.
