Concordia defeats Dordt 2-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Concordia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and won a 2-1 pitcher’s battle with Dordt to force a split of the teams doubleheader in Seward on Saturday.
Dordt’s run came in the top of the sixth when Hannah Sikkema slugged a solo homerun. The hit was just one of three recorded by the Defenders in the game.
Concordia’s first two batters in the seventh were retired on ground outs but a two out pinch-hit single started the rally. The Bulldogs tied it on a single that scored a run from second and a single the bases loaded ended it for Concordia.
Dordt was outhit 7-3
Neither team committed an error.
Sikkema had two of Dordt’s three hits.
Hailey Heeringa had Dordt’s other hit.
Tianna Top took the loss and walked one with two strikeouts and was charged with the two runs.
Dordt takes a 22-18 overall record and 11-9 GPAC mark into the post-season. Dordt will be the no. 4 seed and will face Dakota Wesleyan on Friday, May 4 starting at noon. The Defenders are in a four-team bracket at Midland with Midland, Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty.
