Dordt defeats Concordia 4-3 (8 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College scored a run in the top of the eighth inning and held on to win a 4-3 decision over Concordia on Saturday in GPAC play.
Dordt sidestepped early trouble as the Bulldogs stranded five runners in the first and third innings combined and scored no runs.
Rachel Evavold led off the fourth inning with a double and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a Corinne May single.
The hosts broke through with two runs on two hits in the fifth inning only to have Dordt score two in the sixth with Carley DeRoin doubling in two runs.
The Bulldogs tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh but left the winning run at third when the inning ended.
Evavold started the eighth with a solo homerun and then retired the side in the eighth, leaving the tying run stranded at second base.
Evavold was the winning pitcher and struck out nine and scattered ten hits for the win with two earned runs allowed.
Evavold also had two hits and scored three runs and walked once.
Summer Jansen had a pair of hits and De Roin knocked in two.
Dordt was outhit 10-7.
