Dordt defeats Briar Cliff 7-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt scored the first seven runs of the game and were never challenged in a 7-3 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Wednesday in Sioux Center.
The Defenders got on the board with a Hailey Heeringa single that got Marissa VandenBerg across. Dordt followed with three runs on three hits in the third inning with a dropped fly ball leading to an unearned run in the frame.
Dordt finished its scoring with a three run fifth inning. Carley De Roin doubled in two runs and Marissa VandenBerg sent De Roin across with a double.
Briar Cliff finally got to Dordt starter Tianna Top with three runs in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough to prevent the sweep.
Dordt had a 12-8 hits edge.
Heeringa was 3-4 with three runs batted in.
Carley De Roin was 2-3 with two runs batted in.
Marissa VandenBerg was 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in and she and De Roin had a double for Dordt’s lone extra base hits.
Tianna Top was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts, three runs allowed and eight hits in the complete game win.
Top is 8-7 on the mound.
Dordt is 20-16 overall and 9-7 in the GPAC. Briar Cliff is 5-30 overall and 2-16 in the conference.
Dordt will face Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday.
