Dordt defeats Hastings 8-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College won an 8-1 decision over Hastings in GPAC play on Saturday, April 21 in Sioux Center.
Dordt sidestepped trouble in the first inning when Rachel Evavold got out of a second and third no outs jam. The Dordt offense responded by giving the sophomore hurler a pair of runs to work with.
Three more runs came in the second inning with a bases loaded walk to Hailey Heeringa putting Dordt up 3-0 and Corinne May doubled to left field for a 5-0 lead.
The advantage ballooned to 7-0 with Rachel Evavold singling in two runs. The two teams swapped runs with Hastings getting one in the fourth on a solo homerun and Dordt got its in the fifth with Evavold doubling in Hope Veldkamp.
Rachel Evavold got the pitching win with one run allowed on six hits and struck out five.
Dordt had an 8-6 hits advantage.
Rachel Evavold was 3-4 with two runs and three runs batted in.
Corinne May was 2-4 with three runs batted in.
Hailey Heeringa got two runs batted in with a single and a walk.
