Morningside defeats Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morningside scored one run each in three different innings and took a 3-1 win over the Defenders in game one of their doubleheader.
Morningside had one run on one hit in the third inning but Dordt was able to match it in the top of the fourth.
Rachel Evavold had a one out double and Summer Jansen singled to left field to knock Hope Veldkamp in who was running for her. The Defenders ended up stranding a runner at second when the inning came to a close.
Morningside unlocked the tie with a run in the fourth and added a run in the fifth for the eventual 3-1 lead.
Dordt did threaten in the fifth but left runners at first and third after a two-out uprising.
Rachel Evavold had two hits with a single and a double.
Dordt’s other three this were all singles by Marissa VandenBerg, Summer Jansen and Carley DeRoin.
Evavold went the distance and allowed on earned run on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Dordt was outhit 6-5. Dordt stranded four and Morningside six.
