Northwestern defeats Dordt 4-3 (8 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College was unable to hold a 3-1 lead and lost a 4-3, eight inning decision, to Northwestern on Wednesday night in Sioux Center.
Dordt started the scoring with a run on two Northwestern errors in the second inning. Corinne May scored after reaching initially with a two out walk.
Northwestern got one run in the fourth inning but Dordt answered with two as Summer Jansen doubled and May had a double an out later to get the run in. Hannah Sikkema singled with two outs and May scored on an error.
The Raiders answered with a run on two hits in the fifth and tied it with a run in the seventh.
Dordt got a runner on first with two outs in the seventh but was unable to move Marissa VandenBerg up.
A run on two hits in the eighth put Northwestern up.
Dordt tried to retaliate with Rachel Evavold singling and Hailey Heeringa added a single with one out to put runers at first and second. A pop out and a strikeout ended the Dordt threat and the game.
Dordt was outhit 11-7.
Northwestern committed three errors.
Seven different players had one hit each for Dordt and Summer Jansen and Corinne May each had doubles
Marissa VandenBerg had there of Dordt’s hits with a pair of singles and a double.
Tianna Top allowed four runs with two walks and ten strikeouts. Top took the loss.
Dordt is 11-14 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Northwestern improves to 7-1 and 22-5.
Dordt is scheduled to face the College of Saint Mary on Thursday afternoon in Omaha.
