Northwestern defeats Dordt 6-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern secured a 6-4 win over the Dordt College Defenders, fighting off a host rally in the bottom of the seventh inning for the two run win in GPAC play.
Northwestern got a run in the first inning but the Defenders got the run back when Marissa VandenBerg doubled to start the fourth inning. A Rachel Evavold sacrifice fly got VandenBerg in from third.
The Raiders got another run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth on two hits.
A two run seventh inning with three hits extended the lead to 6-1. The Defenders rallied with a Hailey Heeringa double and a walk to Corinne May put runners on first and second. Carley DeRoin doubled in a run and Hannah Sikkema’s ground out plated another run. Marissa VandenBerg delivered a run scoring single with two outs but a ground out ended the inning and the Dordt threat with a runner at first base.
Dordt was outhit 9-7.
Neither team committed an error.
Marissa VandenBerg had there of Dordt’s hits with a pair of singles and a double.
Heeringa and DeRoin each had doubles.
Rachel Evavold absorbed the loss with six earned runs, a walk and four strikeouts.
Eight players accounted for Northwestern’s nine hits and the Raiders had a pair of homeruns.
