Midland defeats Dordt 2-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midland nipped Dordt 2-1 in GPAC softball play on Wednesday afternoon in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Warriors broke through with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. The runs came after Midland had stranded three runners in the first four innings. Midland could have stretched the lead further but stranded three runners in the two innings where it scored runs.
Midland’s second run was an unearned run.
Dordt got one run in the sixth when Summer Jansen singled to lead off the inning and Marissa VandenBerg reached on an error after two outs were recorded. Rachel Evavold then knocked in a run with a single but the threat ended with runners on first and third.
Both teams were retired in order in the seventh.
Marissa VandenBerg had two of Dordt’s four hits with a pair of singles.
Tianna Top took the loss after scattering nine hits and surrendered one earned run with six strikeouts and no walks.
Evavold and Jansen had the two singles to account for Dordt’s other two hits.
