Dakota Wesleyan defeats Dordt 7-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dakota Wesleyan scored five runs in the second inning and made that advantage hold up in a 7-5 win over Dordt in non-conference softball at Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Marissa VandenBerg belted a lead off homerun in the first inning to start the scoring but the Tigers answered in the top of the third with a five run uprising on six hits.
Dordt chipped one run off the deficit with Vanden Berg scoring on a ground out after tripling.
The Tigers built the lead to 7-2 with a run each in the fifth and sixth innings and Hailey Heeringa belted a lead off homerun in the sixth to get Dordt to within 7-3.
Dordt threatened in the seventh inning two runs on three hits but left the tying run stranded as the inning came to a close.
Dordt had a 10-9 hits advantage.
Wesleyan took advantage of three Dordt errors.
Vanden Berg had three hits and was a double shy of the cycle. And scored two runs.
Heeringa had two runs batted in.
Ashley Williams had two singles.
Natalie Vos took the loss and was charged with five earned runs with a walk and four strikeouts.
