Dordt defeats Presentation 11-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt softball team bounced back from a doubleheader opening loss to Presentation in Aberdeen, South Dakota on Friday afternoon with a runaway 11-1 win over the Saints.
The Defenders got two runs on three hits in the first inning with Summer Jansen knocking in one run with a double and a bases loaded walk got the second run in.
Dordt added a run in the second inning Marissa VandenBerg doubling in a run but a double play stopped any more scoring for the visitors.
The Defenders got five runs on four hits in the fourth with Hailey Heeringa belting a three-run homerun for the big blow. Presentation was finally able to get on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Dordt finished it with three runs in the top of the fifth as Jansen knocked in two more with a double.
The ended by virtue of the eight-run difference after five innings for the final of 11-1.
Natalie Vos pitched five innings and allowed one run on six hits and struck out five with one walk.
Marissa VandenBerg and Summer Jansen each had three this with Jansen knocking in three with two doubles and a single.
Corinne May scored three runs.
Hailey Heeringa had two singles and three runs batted in.
Carley De Roin had two singles.
Dordt is 1-1 this season and Presentation is 2-2.
Dordt will play Dakota Wesleyan and Valley City State on Saturday in Aberdeen.
