Morningside defeats Dordt 83-63

Dordt College was unable to fight off a second half run by the Morningside Mustangs and fell in the GPAC Quarterfinal round by an 83-63 margin in Sioux City on Wednesday, February 21.

The Defenders trailed from the start of the game and got down 18-8 before cutting the lead down to 20-15 with Kyle Lang hitting a three-point shot at the 13:14 mark of the first half. A Morningside basket stalled the rally but Dordt made another charge and overtook Morningside at 31-30 on another Lang three-point shot, one of three he made in the first half, this one coming at the 7:25 mark of the half.

The Mustangs responded almost immediately and built the lead to 12 before settling for a 50-40 lead when Chandler Brunsting’s basket capped the scoring in the first 20 minutes.

Dordt outscored the Mustangs 15-4 to start the second half and Chad Barkema’s three-point shot 4:22 after the intermission put Dordt up 55-54.  The two teams were tied at 57-57 with 13:08 left before Morningside re-established control and went on a 16-0 run and limited the Defenders to two points over the next ten minutes and advanced to a semifinal contest on Saturday against Dakota Wesleyan.
