Morningside defeats Dordt 93-72
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morningside never trailed in taking a GPAC win on Wednesday night at the DeWitt Gym in Sioux Center 93-72.
The Defenders got down 21-11 before cutting into the lead and getting it to within 23-18 with 10:42 left in the half on a Kyle Lang three-point basket.
The Mustangs responded by pushing the lead back to double figures with just over eight minutes remaining and led 49-36 at halftime.
Dordt was unable to mount a threat in the second half as the Mustangs maintained its halftime advantage and won by the eventual 21 point difference.
Dordt was 28-71 from the field and 13-33 from the three-point line while converting 3-5 free throws.
Morningside countered with 38-68 field goal shooting and 10-20 success from the three-point line.
Dordt was outrebounded 39-37.
Alec Henrickson converted 4-8 three-point shots for a team high 12 points and Chad Barkema had ten points.
Ben Gesink contributed nine points and Josh Van Lingen added eight.
Dordt is 11-18 overall and 5-12 in the GPAC.
Morningside is 22-6 overall and 14-4 in the GPAC and has assured itself at least a share of the GPAC title.
