Doane def. Dordt 84-77


Dordt College controlled much of the first 30 minutes of its game with Doane but the visiting Tigers were able to use a run at the end of the game to take a seven point win at the De Witt Gym on Friday night.

Dordt took a 13 point lead on Chandler Brunsting basket to go up 46-33 late in the first half and took a 48-38 lead into the halftime break.

Dordt’s lead was ­66-57 with 10:55 left in the game as Andrew O’Donnell knocked down a pair of free throws. Doane proceeded to take control of the game with a 15-5 run to lead 72-71.  The Tigers pushed the lead to 78-71 as part of a 12-0 run and the Defenders got no closer than four.


Alec Henrickson scored 19 to lead Dordt.

Marcus Winterfeld added 16 points and Chandler Brunsting scored ten with seven rebounds.

Jesse Jansma scored nine and Josh Van Lingen scored eight before fouling out.

Dordt was 32-72 from the field and 7-23 from the three-point line. Dordt converted 6-12 free throws.

Doane was 23-47 from the field and 9-22 from the three-point arc.  Doane took advantage of a 29-39 free throw evening.

Both teams had 38 rebounds.

Doane had 20 turnovers to 16 for Dordt.

Dordt is 3-3 in the GPAC and 8-8 overall.

Doane is 3-4 in the GPAC and 6-7 overall.

Dordt is off until December 29 and 30 when they play a pair of games in Mitchell, South Dakota.


“We struggled with keeping them off the foul line in the second half. They got into the bonus early as a result we couldn’t pressure and get the pace where it needed to be. It’s no secret we need to have pace and pressure because of our lack of size and Doane got the game where they needed to.”
