Concordia def. Dordt 85-80


A double digit lead for the Dordt College Defenders dwindled and the Concordia Bulldogs took an 85-80 win over the Defenders in Sioux Center on Saturday in a match up of youthful teams in the early GPAC season.

Alec Henrickson erupted for 23 first half points as the Defenders took a 45-32 lead near the end of the first half as Henrickson converted a pair of free throws.

Concordia sliced into the lead before the half as they outscored Dordt 6-2 over the final 2:55 of the first half to go to the lockerroom 47-38.

Foul trouble marked the start of the second half as Marcus Winterfeld was saddled with his third and Chad Barkema also took his third foul with under two minutes gone in the half. Despite that the Defenders still had a 52-41 lead at the 16:54 mark.

Concordia staged an uprising to get within seven but Henrickson converted two free throws at the 8:33 mark to get the lead back to 67-57 and the Defenders were up 69-60 with 6:00 left.  Over the next 3:36 the Bulldogs outscored Dordt 13-4 and tied it at 73-73. The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time with 1:26 left and Dordt never had the ball with a chance to regain the lead the rest of the way before falling 85-50.


Dordt was 27-57 from the field for 47.4 percent success and made 20-23 free throws and 6-18 three-point shots.

Concordia was 26-52 from the field and 4-19 from the three-point line and converted 29-36 free throws.

The game was marred by 60 total fouls.

Dordt was outrebounded 34-29 and had 19 turnovers to 16 for the Bulldogs.

Alec Henrickson scored 31 on 10-19 shooting.

Chad Barkema scored 12 and Marcus Winterfeld had 11.

Andrew O’Donnell had a team high eight rebounds and Chad Barkema had four assists.

Concordia had six players in double figures led by Brevin Sloup’s 17 in a reserve role.


Dordt will travel to Northwestern on Wednesday night in Orange City.
