Dordt defeats Robert Morris-Peoria 4-3 (ot shootout)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College allowed a late goal in regulation then survived an overtime session and won its first game at the Clash in the Corn on Thursday night with a shootout goal by Willhelm Oppedyk.
Dordt’s first goal came in the first period when Eric Van Laren scored off an assist by Tom Soodsma and Caleb Koomans near the midpoint of the session. Nico Kooistra added a goal in the second period that tied the game after the visitors had scored back to back goals.
With the game tied Dordt broke through with a power play goal by Caleb Groot with 14:05 left in the game.
Dordt tried to sit on the lead but was unable to sustain the final push by Peoria as the guests tied it with a little over a minute remaining in the final period.
Neither team was able to break through in the overtime and the game went to a shootout where Dordt finally broke through after the two teams went seven shooters each without getting a goal through. Willhelm Oppedyk was the hero as Dordt improved to 1-0 in the Clash in the Corn.
Bryce Andry was in goal and made 41 saves.
Dordt scored its four goals while making the most of 20 total shots.
