Augustana (Illinois) defeats Dordt 6-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blades were unable to hold a 5-3 lead and lost a 6-5 overtime decision to Augustana on Friday night in Sioux Center.
The Blades scored first with a pair of first period goals by Seth Vandergugten and Jacob Petrie.
Augustana was able to answer with a pair of goals before the period ended to tie the contest.
Mark Schouten started the scoring with an unassisted goal 2:04 into the second period for the Blades but Augustana again had the equalizer ten minutes later.
Schouten gave the Blades a 4-3 lead late in the first period and Caleb Groot put the Blades up 5-3 with a goal a little over a minute into the third period.
Augustana wouldn’t fade easily, getting a goal at the 4:34 mark of the third periods and tying it with :41 left. Augustana then won it with a goal at the 1:51 mark of the overtime.
Bryce Andry faced 42 shots in goal for the Blades.
The game is Dordt’s second loss in overtime early in the season.
