Vanguard def. Dordt 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College volleyball team was unable to seize the momentum in their first match of Friday’s play at Vanguard in Costa Mesa, California and fell 3-0 to the Lions.
In set one the Defenders did build a 17-13 lead on a Haley Delperdang kill but and a Jamie Gesink kill made it 18-14. Three unanswered points got the Lions to within 18-17 and the score was tied 19-19 moments later. The hosts ended the set on an eight point run and took the 25-19 win.
Set two saw Dordt have a golden opportunity to tie the set when it built a 23-18 lead on a Julia Lindbergh kill. Another seven point run by the hosts turned the deficit into a 25-23 win and a 2-0 lead.
A four point run in the third set by the Lions gave then an 18-12 lead that proved to be too much as Dordt got no closer than 19-16 on a Leah Kamp kill before losing 25-17.
