Dordt def. Lewis Clark State 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 27-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a 3-0 win over Lewis Clark State on Thursday, August 17 in a match hosted by Hope International (California).
The Defenders had no trouble in set one, riding a .400 kill efficiency to the 25-14 win. The Defenders also limited Lewis Clark State to eight kills with six attack errors in the set.
Set two was more of the same as the Defenders again had a solid .355 kill efficiency with 14 kills against three errors and Dordt took a 25-20 win in the set for a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Lewis Clark State didn’t go quietly in set three, pushing the contest to a 25-25 tie but the Defenders had enough to hold on for a 27-25 win.
COACH HANSON SAID
“What a good start to our season with great volleyball right from the first serve. Our ball control kept us in system often which gave Jamie plenty of offensive options. We needed to maintain focus to finish out a tighter third set.”
Jamie Gesink put up 33 assists and had six kills in nine attempts with no errors.
Ema Altena hit for a .357 kill efficiency with 14 kills and she had four service aces and nine digs.
Leah Kamp put down 11 kills on 15 swings and had no errors.
Summer Jansen recorded a match high 16 digs.
Dordt hit for a .354 kill efficiency and limited Lewis Clark State to a .202 success rate.
Dordt had 38 digs to 30 for Lewis Clark State.
