Dordt College won the Briar Cliff Cross Country Invite at the Adams Nature Reserve at McCook Lake, South Dakota on Saturday, October 7. The Defenders had 60 points to slip in front of Morningside’s 68.
Audrey Brooks claimed second with a time of 19:10 and nipped the third place finisher by less than a second.
Dordt used a strong pack with their 2-4 runners finishing 12th, 15th and 16th and were separated by less than nine seconds.
Northwestern’s Katie Bosch claimed first place in a time of 18:45.
162 runners competed on the 5,000 meter course.
The race was bumped back an hour to allow the meet hosts to re-work the course because of heavy rain the previous 48 hours.
Competitors ran in 55 degree weather with very muddy conditions on about 2,000 meters. There was standing water for runners to contend with in several spots.
Dordt’s next competition will be at the Seminole Valley Invite on Saturday, October 21 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

COACH WOLF SAID
"It was a fun day for our women. Due to the large amount of rain that fell in Sioux City this week, the course had to be adjusted and was 200 meters long and had some significant muddy areas. Our women moved very well over the last 1,000 meters and the strength of our pack was an important factor in pulling out the team win in one of the strongest fields we’ve raced in this year, with three ranked teams and a fourth receiving votes in the latest NAIA Poll. Audrey Brooks had another great day as she led the women and finished second overall."
