Park defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-16, 25-5, 25-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men’s volleyball team traveled to Parkville, Missouri to face the Park Pirates in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament on Tuesday night. The Pirates, the number two seed in the pairings, handled the Defenders 3-0.
Dordt battled to within 12-10 in set one on a Ben Tiemersma kill, but a five point run by the hosts effectively put the set out of reach before winning 25-16.
Set two resulted in the Pirates running off 13 of the first 14 points and Park won the set 25-5.
Trailing 2-0, the Defenders battled in set three, cutting a 14-7 lead down to 22-19 with back to back blocks, but the visitors got no closer than three and fell 25-21.
Tiemersma led Dordt’s attack with seven kills and Alex Durbin added four.
Cobi Jones put up 12 assists and Caleb Brandsma had six digs and Mark Schussler five.
Park controlled net play with 45 kills and a .354 kill efficiency.
Dordt scored six points on blocks but surrendered 11 ace serves by the hosts.
Dordt finishes the season 1-22 while Park advances to the semifinal round on Thursday, April 6.
