Dordt defeats Mount Marty 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women’s soccer team did all its scoring in the first half and earned a 3-1 win on Wednesday, October 18 in Yankton, South Dakota against Mount Marty.
The Defenders scored on an Alaina Van Zalen goal just over seven minutes into the game with Tori Mann assisting. Natalie Sakuma addad a goal in the 17th minute with Van Zalen getting credit for the assist.
The flurry of goals ended with a Raquelle Mouw goal in the 22nd minute for a 3-0 lead.
Mount Marty got on the board with just over eight minutes left in the half and the two teams played scoreless soccer for the rest of the game.
Dordt had a 32-6 shot advantage and a 16-4 shots on goal edge.
Mouw’s goal was her team leading ninth of the season and Sakuma now has eight goals.
Van Zailen’s assist was her third of the year.
Belle Helgerson had three saves in goal for the win.
Dordt is 10-5 this season and 5-2 in league play with three games remaining.
The Defenders will host Concordia on Saturday, October 20.

"We played a midweek game and struggled to find our stride. The three goals came quite quickly but after that the game became a back and forth battle. Several break always were thwarted by their keeper who had an outstanding game. "
