Midland defeats Dordt 2-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Midland score the first two goals of the game and then held on when the Defenders got a goal with plenty of time to make it interesting.

Three shots on goal by Midland one by Dordt in the first half led to a 0-0 tie.  Midland broke through in the 51st minute with a goal by Nayeli Rodriguez and PT Perez made it 2-0 off an assist by Allison Buehring in the 78th minute.

The Defenders were able to answer in the 80th minute when Alaina Van Zalen scored off an assist by Natalie Sakuma to narrow the difference to 2-1 but neither team got a shot in the final 20 minutes.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt was outshot on goal 7-3 and overall 14-5.

Belle Helgerson made four saves in goal for the Defenders and took the loss.

Midland controlled much of play and had a 6-1 corner kick edge.

Dordt is 9-5 and 4-2 in the GPAC.  Midland, the 18th ranked team in the country, is 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-2.

The goals by Midland were the first surrendered by Dordt since September 23.

Dordt will travel to Mount Marty on Wednesday, October 18 before hosting Concordia on Saturday, October 21.

"Today we played the new team in the conference. While the result was not what we wanted, we can take the game as a learning experience of what is necessary if we want to be a presence in the top of the conference. "
