SCORE

Dordt defeats Martin Luther 2-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dordt scored two goals in quick succession midway through the first half and those two goals stood up as Dordt secured a 2-0 non-conference victory over Martin Luther on Friday afternoon in Sioux Center.

Both teams knocked shots off the crossbar before Dordt finally broke through with a Jalissa De Haan goal in the 18th minute.  Moments later Kenzie Bousema redirected a pass from Tori Mann in front of the goal for Dordt’s second score.

Dordt controlled play the entire contest but was only able to get the two goals past Martin Luther’s Erin Fedderson.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt had a 31-1 shots on goal advantage and an overall edge of 17-2

De Haan’s goal was her first of the season while Bousema has now scored six goals.

Karlee Kuyvenhoven had a save of the only shot on goal she faced to secure the shutout.

The victory was Dordt’s fourth by shutout.

The Defenders are now 6-4 and will host Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, September 30.

COACH ELGERSMA SAID

“The score in no way reflects the game. We had great opportunities and struggled to get the ball to go in. But as a non-conference game lots of players got good minutes and that is important as well.”
