Hastings defeats Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College fought to a brief 1-1 tie with conference favorite Hastings but lost a 3-1 decision in Sioux Center on Saturday, September 23.
Hastings got the scoring started with a goal by Heidi Bartsch in the 14th minute and Dordt answered with a goal by Kenzie Bousema in the 24th minute off an assist by Natalie Sakuma.
Madison Taylor unlocked the tie in the 34th minute and the teams played at a 2-1 difference for the next 40 minutes until Olivia McMahon found the back of the net for a 3-1 lead that stood up.
Dordt was outshot on goal 5-1 and 7-1 overall.
Belle Helgerson was in goal for the Defenders and made three saves.
Hastings’s attack was steady as it had four shots in the first period and three in the second.
Each team had one corner kick.
Bousema’s goal was her fourth of the season and it was Sakuma’s fourth assist.
Dordt is 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the GPAC. Hastings is 1-0 in the league and 7-1-1 overall. Hastings entered play as the no. 20 ranked team in the country.
Dordt will travel to Sioux City and faces Briar Cliff on Tuesday, September 26.
