Morningside defeats Dordt 3-2 2ot
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morningside scored a goal in the final minute of overtime to win a 3-2 decision from Dordt on Tuesday night in Sioux City.
The Defenders tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Colton Schreur in the 43rd minute of play. The goal came off an assist by Patrick Munsey and came 14 minutes after Morningside broke the ice with a goal by Arthur Ribas.
The two teams went to halftime tied 1-1 with Morningside breaking the tie with a goal in the 50th minute.
Nathan Struyk had the equalizer with a goa in the 60th minute with Mason Faucett assisting. The score stayed tied for the next 30 minutes of regulation and the first ten minute overtime session.
The second overtime session was in the final minute of play when Ribas scored the game winner for the hosts.
Dordt as outshot on goal 13-3 and overall 22-8.
Morningside had a 5-2 corner kick edge and had three shots on goal in the overtimes before getting the game winner. Dordt had one shot on goal in the first overtime.
Struyk’s goal was his first of the year and Schreur’s was his third.
Dordt finishes the regular season 8-10 overall and 2-7 in the GPAC.
Dordt awaits the GPAC post-season tournament pairing announcement on Saturday, October 28.
