Midland def. Dordt 3-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College scored a pair of first half goals but the Midland Warriors answered with three second half goals to take a 3-2 GPAC decision on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.
The Defenders scored in the 20th minute when Garrett Goodson found the back of the net and Mika de Vin’s goal in the 29th minute made it 2-0.
Neither team scored for the next 38 minutes with Robert Wiseman breaking the ice for Midland. Connor McFadden scored just over three minutes later in the 68th minute to tie the game.
Wiseman got the game winner in the 83rd minute and the Defenders were unable to mount a scoring threat in the final seven minutes with Midland getting two corner kicks as they controlled play after securing the lead.
Dordt was outshot overall 18-10 and on goal 9-4.
Seth Lewison had six saves for the Defenders in 90 minutes of play.
Shazz Heale had two saves to get the win for Midland.
Midland is 8-5 and 4-1 while Dordt is 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Dordt will travel to Mount Marty on Wednesday before hosting Concordia on Saturday, October 21 in its final home game of the season.
COACH STIEMSMA SAID
“We battled, we just came up short in the second half. Chances were there while we were up 2-1 to add to our lead and we look back on those as missed opportunities to slam the door on them. Overall we did a lot of things really well.”
