Dordt defeats Southwestern 1-0 in overtime
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt’s Colton Schreur scored the golden goal in the first minute of overtime as the Defender men’s soccer team beat Southwestern (Kansas) 1-0 in Aurora, Colorado.
The Defenders got the game winner when Stephen Brinkerhoff chipped a pass to Schreur just 36 seconds into the overtime as Dordt capitalized its sixth shot on goal.
COACH STIEMSMA SAID
“We played really well defensively. We had a lot of chances—it was hard fought. We lived in our attacking third most of the second half. It was a solid team effort. We passed the ball pretty well. Zach Roberts stopped a penalty kick in the first half—that was huge.”
Dordt fired 12 shots and had six on frame.
VJ Hachaba had three shots on goal and Garrett Goodson had two shots on goal.
Southwestern had two shots on goal and nine overall.
Zach Roberts recorded the shutout in goal and had two saves.
Dordt is 3-2 this season.
Dordt will face Johnson and Wales (Colorado) on Saturday. The game will be played at the Aurora Sports Complex.
