Dordt defeats Nebraska Christian 7-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College took the suspense out of its match with Nebraska Christian early in winning a 7-0 decision from the Sentinels in the home and season opener for the Defenders. The contest was the first of four games in a row at home for Dordt.
VJ Hachaba scored the first of his two goals just 19 seconds into the match after taking it away from Nebraska Christian in the back third of the field. Hachaba would score off a Garrett Goodson assists in the 27th minute to lead 3-0.
Before Hachaba made it 3-0 Mason Faucett got one through in the seventh minute and Goodson scored in the 33rd minute to put the Defenders squarely in control 4-0.
Jose Benitiz added a fifth first half goal off an assist from Danny Mooers in the 43rd minute and that scored stood until halftime.
Faucett added his second goal on an assist by Colton Schreur in the 52nd minute started the second half scoring and Schreur was good for the final goal in the final minute of play for the 7-0 final.
COACH STIEMSMA SAID
“We were happy to get the season off to a good start—a lot of players got their feet wet. It was fun to have so many people at the game—we had a great crowd. This team has lots of potential and lots to work on.”
Dordt had a 52-2 shot advantage and put 28 shots on frame to one shot on goal by the Sentinels.
Seth Lewison recorded the shutout in goal and had one save.
23 players saw action for Dordt.
Hachaba and Faucett each had two goals.
Benitez and Goodson each had a goal in a reserve role and Goodson had an assist. Schreur also had a goal and an assist.
Dordt is 1-0 while Nebraska Christian slips to 0-2.
Nebraska Christian’s Chayanne Peralta had 19 saves in goal.
The Defenders will play two games next Friday and Saturday, September 1 and 2 in Sioux Center. The Defenders will host Evangel (Missouri) on Friday and Benedictine (Kansas) on Saturday. Both contests are at 2:00.
