Morningside def. Dordt 62-23


Morningside’s high-powered offense proved to be too much for the Dordt Defender football team in a 62-23 win in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dordt’s offense stalled on its first two drives and Morningside responded with a pair of touchdowns on drives of 56 and 65 yards for a 12-0 lead when both point after tries failed.

Dordt’s offense got going with a  six play, 63 yard drive that culminated with a Keithen Drury two yard touchdown run.  The drive was extended when Brock Lamle found Levi Jungling for 47 yards to the Mustang 7.

After the two point conversion Morningside took the ball back and marched 63 yards on ten places to establish a 20-8 kead that hled until the end of the first quarter. 

Dordt had an answer on the next drive and went 69 yards on seven plays and Drury again went in from one yard out for a 20-14 difference.  Morningside scored two more times before halftime to lead 32-14 and Dordt missed on a drive that stalled inside the Morningside ten.

Morningside added another touchdown and two point conversion to start the second half for 20 unanswered points before Jeff Paepke knocked a 32 yard field goal through the uprights to trail 40-17.

Dordt’s last score came on Drury’s third short-yardage plunge, a one yard touchdown on third and goal.

Morningside scored a touchdown in the fourth for the 62-23 final.


The two teams combined for 1,093 yards of offense.

Dordt had 174 yards rushing and 237 yards passing.

Morningside ran for 307 yards and passed for 375.

Dordt was led by Levi Jungling’s six receptions for 163 yards and he ran for 42 yards on three carries.

Brock Lamle was 10-20 passing for 237 yards.

Ben Heuvelhorst caught two passes for 56 yards.

Keith Drury led Dordt with 83 rushing yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Morningside’s Bubba Jenkins ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.

Trent Solsma completed 28-37 passes for 373 yards and five touchdowns.

Dordt’s Arie Hoekstra had seven solo and three assisted stops and Josiah Kotte had five solo and six assisted tackles.

Casey Byker was in on 12 total tackles.

Neither team had turnover.

Dordt is 2-1 and will host Midland on Saturday, September 23 at 1:00.

Morningside is 4-0 and will have an open date on Saturday before playing Northwestern on Saturday, September 30.
