Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College went on the road and lost a 3-0 conference decision to Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Monday night, March 20.
The Defenders led briefly at 6-5 and 8-6 with a block by Alex Durbin and Tyler Postma providing the point. The Chargers came back to tie the set at 10-10 and it was tied again at 12-12 before six unanswered points by the hosts put them up 18-12. The Defenders got no closer than four the rest of the set and fell 25-19.
After taking a 1-0 lead the Defenders trailed the rest of set two, getting as close as 13-12 on a Danny Beaton kill and the difference was trimmed to 18-16 after Briar Cliff pushed the lead to 18-12 and the Defenders got no closer than that two point difference.
Briar Cliff led start to finish in set three before winning 25-18.
Dordt had 27 kills to 43 for the Chargers.
Briar Cliff had a .181 kill efficiency to Dordt’s .037.
Dordt scored eight points on blocks to six for the Chargers.
Alex Durbin had seven kills and three block assists.
Ben Tiemersma had six kills and Davis Konynenbelt recorded five.
Mark Schussler got to 18 digs and Tiemersma had eight while Beaton got to six.
Tyler Postma recorded 20 assists.
Dordt will travel to face Morningside on March 29 in its next outing.
