Grand View defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt battled the no. 2 ranked Grand View Vikings in non-conference volleyball on Tuesday night in Sioux Center. The 3-0 win was the second for Grand View over Dordt this season.
The Defenders fought to a 7-7 tie in set one after a kill by Ryan Postma. Grand View pushed in front 11-7 and maintained a 16-10 lead. The Defenders were unable to make a serious challenge down the stretch and the Vikings took set one 25-16.
Set two saw the Defenders run off three straight points with a service error and two straight attack errors by the Vikings to get within 10-8. Four straight points by the Vikings re-established order for the Vikings and Dordt got as close as four on two different occasions before falling 25-19.
Set three was the most competitive of the night. Grand View led 11-7 but four straight points by the Defenders tied it as Ben Tiemersma had a service ace in the run and Danny Beaton put a kill away to tie it. Dordt scored four in a row to take a 19-17 lead but the Vikings had an answer with four points in a row and never trailed again. An attack error tied it 22-22 but back to back Viking points put them at match point and the teams exchanged points to finish 25-23.
-The Defenders had 19 kills with three service aces and scored six points on blocks.
-Grand View recorded 39 kills on a .321 kill efficiency and had three service aces and got three points on blocks.
-Danny Beaton had seven kills and Ben Tiemersma had four.
-Tyler Postma put up 16 assists and had six digs.
-Alex Durbin was in on one solo block and three assisted blocks. Beaton recorded three block assists as well.
-Dordt will host Ottawa on Monday, March 4 at 6:00.
