Lindenwood-Belleville defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender men’s volleyball team was unable to overcome a set one loss where they relinquished a late lead and dropped a 3-0 conference match to the Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx.
The Defenders built an 8-3 lead early with a three-point run on kills by Ben Tiemersma and Alex Durbin and a ball handling error on the visitors. Dordt relinquished the lead at 16-15 but tied it on an attack error and it was tied again 17-17. Dordt pushed the lead to 21-19 on a Tiemersma kill and another ball handling error but three straight points put the difference up to 22-21 for the visitors. Dordt fought back to tie it on a Davis Konynenbelt kill but the Lynx scored two points in a row and then finished it with a kill for a 25-23 win.
The visitors used the momentum from the end of the set to build and early 8-2 lead and Dordt got no closer than 16-13 before falling 25-16.
The Defenders rallied to within 11-8 early in set three but the Lynx got rolling with seven straight points in set three and finished the set on a five point run to win the set and match 25-11.
Lindenwood-Belleville had a 39-25 kills advantage and outhit the Defenders .357-.189.
The Lynx had six service aces and scored five points on blocks to four for the Defenders.
Ben Tiemersma led Dordt with ten kills and he had four digs.
Alex Durbin recorded five kills for Dordt and Davis Konynenbelt had four kills.
Cobi Jones recorded 21 assists and Danny Beaton led the team with eight digs.
Dordt is 1-19 this season and will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 1 at Lamoni, Iowa against Graceland and St. Ambrose.
