Morningside defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College dropped its men’s volleyball home opener on Wednesday night, February 15, by a 3-0 count to the Morningside Mustangs.
The Defenders battled to nine ties in set one with Morningside taking the lead for good at 11-10 and Dordt got no closer than two the rest of the set, the last time at 20-18 on a kill by Ben Tiemersma before succumbing 25-21.
The Mustangs took an early four-point lead at 8-4 and maintained the lead as Dordt got within 10-8 on an attack error. A three-point Mustang run followed and the Defenders got no closer than three the rest of the set in falling 25-19. Dordt’s last three-point deficit was at 18-15 after an Austen Scammon kill.
Up 2-0, Morningside won set three 25-7 for its second win of the season.
-Dordt had 19 kills and 19 errors at the net.
-Morningside had 37 kills and 17 errors.
-Tiemersma had a team high six kills and Danny Beaton had five kills.
-Tyler Postma put up 11 assists.
-Neither team had a service ace with Dordt committing eight service errors and Morningside committed nine.
-Beaton had 13 digs and Mark Schussler had 11 for Dordt and the Defenders recorded seven points on blocks and Morningside had nine.
-Dordt will travel to face Park (Missouri) and Ottawa (Kansas) this Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
