Dakota Wesleyan defeats Dordt 7-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College baseball season came to a close on Friday, May 5 in an elimination game against Dakota Wesleyan in the post-season tournament of the GPAC hosted by Midland in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Tigers started with a run in the first and another in the third for an early 2-0 lead.
Josh Van Eps knocked in Cam Gingerich with a single in the fourth to get Dordt within 2-1 but Wesleyan added runs in the fifth and sixth and then tacked on three in the top of the ninth.
Dordt was outhit 11-4.
Jake Thayer had two hits—a single and a double.
Cam Gingerich and Josh Van Eps each had singles.
Both teams committed two errors.
Connor Hopkins took the pitching loss with an eight inning outing and allowed four runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts and two bases on balls.
Cole Samuelson and Zach Zylstra appeared in relief.
Dordt finishes the season with a 21-26 record. Dakota Wesleyan advances in tournament play to face Morningside in an elimination game with an 18-30 record.
