Mount Marty defeats Dordt 8-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount Marty defeated Dordt College 8-3 in game two of their doubleheader in Sioux Center on Friday night. The Lancers came back from two deficits to secure the five run win.
Dordt started fast with two runs in the first inning with Jamison Wyatt knocking in Jake Thayer and Colton Van Otterloo for the first two runs of the game.
Mount Marty scored on in the top of the second and another in the top of the third inning off Dordt starter Tyler Wiedner.
Dordt unlocked the tie with Wyatt knocking in Thayer with a two-out single.
Mount Marty bounced back with two in the fifth for a 4-3 lead and then scored four runs on six hits in the top of the seventh to win 8-3. Dordt threatened in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on base but the Defenders were unable to push a run across.
Dordt was outhit 13-7.
Jamison Wyatt was 2-4 at the plate with three runs batted in.
Jake Thayer was 2-5 with two runs scored.
Jacob Monsma, Colton Van Otterloo and Zach Folwer had Dordt’s other hits.
Tyler Wiedner went four and a third innings with three bases on balls and seven strikeouts.
Luke Drooger went two and two-third innings and struck out two.
Austin Fokkema worked a scoreless eighth and ninth and struck out one while facing the minimum number of batters.
Dordt is 21-14 overall and 14-14 in the GPAC to conclude the regular season.
Mount Marty is 20-26 overall land 14-14 in the GPAC.
Dordt can finish now worse than a tie for fourth or fifth in the final league standings.
Both Dordt and Mount Marty will qualify for the GPAC Tournament which begins next Thursday, May 4 at the sites of the number one and two seeds.
