Mount Marty defeats Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College was unable to capitalize on Zach Zylstra’s strong pitching performance and lost a 3-1 decision to Mount Marty in game one of their doubleheader on Friday afternoon, April 28 in Sioux Center.
Mount Marty got three of its four hits in the first inning and plated two runs before the inning came to a close and the Lancers left two runners stranded.
Dordt got one run back in the third inning when Travis Waara reached on a walk and was pushed over to second base with an Andrew Randall sacrifice bunt. Jake Thayer then knocked a single to rightfield, the only hit of the game for Dordt and the score was 2-1.
Mount Marty got a run for insurance in the seventh with a walk, a stolen base and a bunt to make it 3-1 and that’s how it ended as Dordt was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dordt was outhit 4-1.
Zylstra went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Thayer had Dordt’s only hit.
