Dordt defeats Dakota Wesleyan 3-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team earned a sweep of the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in GPAC baseball on Monday night in Sioux Center with a 3-0 game two win.
Dordt got single runs in the first, second and fifth innings in support of Brandon Fokkema’s complete game three-hitter.
Dordt’s first run came when Jake Thayer, Taylor Neuroth and Cam Gingerich all singled in succession in the bottom of the first inning. Thayer scored on Gingerich’s single up the middle.
Glen Thompson knocked in a run with a single in the second inning and the 2-0 score held up into the fifth inning when Taylor Neuroth was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and on the steal of third scored on a wild throw. Dordt had the bases loaded in the inning but was unable to do any more damage with a double play finishing the frame.
Dordt had an 8-3 hits advantage and took advantage of two Wesleyan errors.
Colton Van Otterloo had Dordt’s only multiple hit game and all of Dordt’s hits were singles.
Fokkema pitched his third complete game and is 4-2 this season. Fokkema had three hits allowed with two walks and three strikeouts.
Dordt is now 13-11 in the GPAC and is 20-21 overall. The Defenders will host Mount Marty on Friday night and again on Saturday afternoon.
