Dordt defeats Dakota Wesleyan 4-2

The Dordt Defenders overcame two deficits to secure a 4-2 win game one of their doubleheaders with Dakota Wesleyan on Monday night, April 24 in Sioux Center.  The twinbill was originally scheduled to be played Tuesday, April 25 but was moved up one day due to an unfavorable forecast.

Wesleyan scored a run in the first inning with a Jerrod Zens homerun.  Dordt answered back in the bottom of the first with Taylor Neuroth reaching on an error and he eventually scored on a Cam Gingerich sacrifice fly.

A second run in the top of the fourth put the Tigers up 2-1 but Dordt again had an answeras Colton Van Otterloo clubbed a solo homerun to start the inning and Zach Fowler scored on a Chris Schrieber single to centerfield for a 3-2 lead.

The Defenders added a run in the sixth when Josh Van Eps started the uprising with a two-out single.  A walk followed and Parker Schutt singled down the line for a 4-2 lead that stood up as Zach Zylstra worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the GPAC win.

The Defenders had a 7-5 hits advantage.

Wesleyan committed two errors and Dordt none.

Colton Van Otterloo had the only multiple hit game for the Defenders and had a double and homerun with a run batted in.

Taylor Neuroth had a single and two stolen bases.

Zach Zylstra earned his fourth win of the season and pitched his second complete game with four walks, six strikeouts and two runs allowed and five hits.
