Dakota Wesleyan defeats Dordt 5-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers slipped by Dordt 5-3 in game one of their doubleheader on Thursday night, April 13.
Wesleyan scored a run in both the first and third innings before Dordt got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Taylor Neuroth reached on an error to start the inning but was retired on a fielder’s choice. Colton Van Otterloo knocked a single to put runners on first and second and one out later Zach Fowler singled in Cam Gingerich to cut the lead to 2-1.
The score held until the top of the sixth inning when Gingerich and Van Otterloo singled to start the frame. Trent Roose walked to load the bases and Gingerich scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Fowler followed with a sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.
Wesleyan wasted no time in scoring three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead and Dordt was retired in order in the top of the seventh to finish the game.
Dordt as outhit 8-5.
Van Otterloo and Fowler each had two hits with Fowler knocking in two runs. Gingerich had Dordt’s other hit.
Connor Hopkins took the loss after going five and two-third innings and struck out four with three walks and eight hits allowed. Hopkins is now 5-2.
