Dordt defeats Morningside 10-6
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College used a fast start and a six run third inning to prevail over the Morningside Mustangs on Saturday, April 8.
Dordt plated three in the first inning on a Cam Gingerich rbi single and Trent Roose added a run scoring single and Roose eventually scored on an error.
The hosts got those three runs back in the home half of the second inning but Dordt had an answer with six runs in the top of the third. Dordt’s first two batters were retired without incident before Colton Van Otterloo singled to start the threat. Roose knocked a run in with a single and Zach Fowler kept the inning rolling with a single. Josh Van Eps singled in a run and Parker Schutt was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chris Schrieber walked to force in another run and it was Jake Thayer delivering a triple to clear the bases and give Dordt a 9-3 lead.
Morningside responded with two runs on four hits but left two runners on base in the fourth inning to get the lead back to 9-5. The Mustangs added a run in the fourth and Dordt finished the scoring with a Fowler double giving Dordt the 10-6 win.
Dordt outhit Morningside 14-11 and both teams had one error.
Zach Fowler and Trent Roose both had three hits.
Taylor Neuroth, Colton Van Otterloo and Josh Van Eps all had two hits.
Thayer knocked in three runs and Fowler had two.
Brandon Fokkema pitched six innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Cole Samuelson worked a scoreless seventh and struck out two and allowed one hit.
