Dordt defeats Hastings 3-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt got a strong pitching performance from Connor Hopkins and enough offense to forge a 3-0 win over the Hastings Broncos on Saturday, April 1 in Sioux Center.
The Defenders scrapped out two runs in the third inning when Andrew Randall singled and Taylor Neuroth had a double that scored Randall. Cam Gingerich had a single to put runners at the corners and Colton Van Otterloo’s fielder’s choice pushed Neuroth across.
Hopkins kept the Broncos at bay until the sixth when they got two of their three hits but Hopkins got the final two outs with a swinging strikeout and a strikeout looking.
Zach Fowler doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Dillon Branderhorst ran for him and scored on a Randall bunt to stake Dordt to the 3-0 final.
Dordt outhit Hastings 7-3.
Neuroth and Gingerich each had two hits and Neuroth, Van Otterloo and Randall had had runs batted in.
Neuroth and Fowler each had a double.
Hopkins went the distance for the second time this week and struck out 12 with two bases on balls and three hits allowed. Hopkins is now 5-0 this season.
Hastings’ Lance Hansen had seven hits allowed and struck out three and gave up all seven hits.
