Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 4-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Briar Cliff Chargers took the lead in the top of the seventh inning from the Dordt Defenders and earned a 4-3 win in game two of their doubleheader to secure their second win of the day in GPAC action on Friday.
Briar Cliff scored its first run of the game with two outs in the first inning when a wild pitch sent Carter Ludwig in. A second run in the third inning on two hits established a 2-0 lead for the visitors.
The Defenders got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third with Glen Thompson reaching on an error and later scored on double play. Thompson figured into the scoring in the fifth when he tripled and later scored on a ground out to tie it 2-2. Taylor Neuroth scored in the sixth to break the tie and Dordt led 3-2. The lead was short lived as Briar Cliff scored two on four this in the top of the seventh and Dordt could muster just one base hit over the final three innings and fell 4-3.
Dordt was outhit 9-4.
Thompson had Dordt’s only extra base hit, a triple and scored two runs.
Fowler, Jordan Van Maanen and Andrew Randall all had singles.
Tyler Wiedner pitched six innings and struck out three and walked three while allowing two runs.
Chris Schrieber took the loss in relief and was charged with two runs and Cole Samuelson recorded the final seven outs and struck out six with one hit allowed.
Andrew Stover went the distance for Briar Cliff and struck out seven and walked two.
Dordt is 2-4 in the GPAC and 9-14 overall. Briar Cliff is 4-4 and 11-19. Dordt will host Hastings on Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
