Northwestern defeats Dordt 4-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern scored a single run in four separate innings on the way to a 4-1 win over Dordt in game one of their doubleheader on Tuesday night, March 28 in Orange City.
Northwestern scored in the second inning with a double starting the inning and the run coming in on a sacrifice fly.
Dordt evened the score with a run in the fourth inning with Zach Fowler singling a run in after Cam Gingerich reached on an error to start the inning and got to third with a stolen base.
Northwestern unlocked the tie with a run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. The Raiders added a run for insurance in the sixth inning with two outs.
The Defenders did threaten with Chris Schrieber doubling to center field and Jacob Monsma ran for him and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Parker Schutt where Northwestern was unable to retire the runner. With the tying run at the plate and two outs Northwestern was able get the final out on a ground ball.
Dordt was outhit 5-4
Brandon Fokkema was Dordt’s starter and took the loss after going five and two-third innings and allowed three earned runs and walked three with two strikeouts.
Colton Van Otterloo, Fowler and Schutt all had a single each. Schrieber had Dordt’s only extra base hit with his double.
