Dordt defeats William Penn 4-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt baseball team lost a lead but came back to win game one of their doubleheader with William Penn on Saturday afternoon in Tucson, Arizona.
The Defenders had a 3-1 lead after four innings but William Penn scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra frame.
In the top of the eighth inning Dordt when Josh Van Eps knocked in Cam Gingerich with a single.
Jake Thayer came on to close the game in the eighth inning for the Defenders as William Penn threatened but had a runner thrown out at third in the inning and had the tying run at first base when the game ended.
-Both teams had seven hits in the game and Dordt overcame two errors to secure the win.
-Taylor Neuroth was the only player with more than one hit for the Defender.
-Josh Van Eps, Cam Gingerich and Trent Roose each had a run batted in.
-Zach Zylstra pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
-Jake Thayer got the win in relief and pitched two innings and allowed two hits with a walk and a strikeout in relief of Cole Samuelson.
