Sterling defeats Dordt 5-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt lost a 5-4 decision to Sterling in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday in Sterling, Kansas.
Sterling scored three runs in the second inning with Dordt responding with a run in the third on a Colton Van Otterloo homerun.
Dordt eventually tied it with with two runs in the fifth inning with Cam Gingerich tripling in a run and he later scored on a Van Otterloo ground out.
The tie didn’t last long with Sterling scoring a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. The Defenders threatened in the seventh as Andrew Randall singled and advanced to third base on an error. After an out was recorded Gingerich kncked in a run with a single and but the tying run was stranded at first base with the final two outs coming via strikeout.
-Dordt had an 11-10 hits advantage and both teams committed two errors.
-Gingerich and Van Otterloo each had two hits with two runs batted in.
Zach Fowler and Andrew Randall each ahd two hits with Randall scoring two runs.
-Luke Drooger was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in an inning and a third of work in relief.
-Trent Roose was the starting pitcher and allowed three runs on seven hits in four innings.
