Sterling defeats Dordt 7-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt lost a 7-5 decision to the Sterling Warriors on Friday afternoon in Sterling, Kansas in the second game of the doubleheader. Dordt relinquished 3-0 and 5-2 leads as Sterling scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Dordt’s first runs came in the top of the first when Cam Gingerich and Colton Van Otterloo doubled and tripled and Van Otterloo scored the second run of the game on a ground out.
Jake Thayer scored a run in the third inning on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead.
The hosts got two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to narrow the lead to 3-2 but Dordt had an answer with two runs in the top of the sixth inning when Glen Thompson doubled to knock in a run and a second run scored on the play on an error.
The Warriors stole their second game of the doubleheader with a five run, three hit, three walk bottom of the sixth inning.
-Dordt was outhit 7-5
-Gingerich had two hits with a double and a single.
-Van Otterloo’s triple produced an rbi and he scored a run.
-Trent Roose had a single and Andrew Randall had a double with a run batted in.
-Michael Grady got the start and four and two-third innings and allwed two runs on four hits and walked five with three strikeouts.
-Andrew Vander Hart took the loss in relief.
-The two teams will play a doubleheader again on Saturday starting at noon.
-Dordt is 0-2 while Sterling improves to 9-1
